Tanzania Project Teachers

For many years, the Tanzania project has worked tirelessly to upgrade school infrastructure and provide necessary equipment. We are proud to announce that our focus has now expanded to also include the essential content of the schools – namely, the education that is provided.

We have assembled a skilled team of volunteer teachers. This team will regularly travel to Tanzania to conduct seminars and provide guidance to local teachers, helping to further develop their pedagogical skills and ensure a more comprehensive and tailored learning experience for the students.

This is a milestone in the history of the Tanzania Project. Our dedicated team brings valuable pedagogical expertise and great enthusiasm that is reflected in both us and the teachers in Tanzania. In March 2023, we also conducted the first Computer Class for 43 teachers from throughout the district. We look forward to what lies ahead!

  • Tanzania Project Teachers is a new, exciting, and forward-thinking initiative bridging the gap between Norwegian and Tanzanian educators. With over 42 participating schools in the Nyasa district and an increasing number of volunteer Norwegian teachers, we have created a professional learning-community rooted in sustainability and local heritage.

Our vision is to develop schools that prepare students for a complex world. We focus on strengthening the students' basic skills, such as reading, writing, and arithmetic, emphasizing sustainability and the preservation of local cultural heritage.

Lake Nyasa, an invaluable natural resource and a remarkable example of Tanzania's ecological wealth, plays a central role in our work. We integrate learning about the lake and its ecosystem into the curriculum, equipping teachers with pedagogical tools that, in turn, provide students with engaging ways to develop their basic skills, while teaching them the importance of preserving the lake for future generations.

We also place great emphasis on the significance of local cultural heritage. By incorporating Tanzanian folktales, history, music, dance, and traditions into the curriculum, students cultivate critical thinking and cultural awareness while learning to appreciate and preserve their unique cultural heritage.

This project, consisting of dedicated volunteer Norwegian teachers and teachers from schools in the Nyasa district, collaborates to exchange pedagogical experiences and enhance teaching methodologies. This partnership promotes the development of a more sustainable educational model that reflects the unique strengths and experiences of both countries.

Get to know Tanzania Project Teachers and join us on our journey to create sustainable schools and enhance student knowledge. By linking learning, sustainability, and cultural heritage, the schools in the Nyasa district can provide students with a robust, relevant, and future-oriented education.
